Microphone Not Working in the Browser: Permission, Input and Playback

A permission problem, the wrong input, and a silent playback route can look like the same microphone failure.

Understand this test

The TNAPK microphone tool asks for access only after you press Record. It captures at most ten seconds, then lets you replay locally. Audio stays in browser memory and is removed when you clear it or leave the page. The tool does not upload a recording. Other website services and analytics are separate from this plugin.

If access is blocked

Chrome’s official instructions explain site microphone permission and operating-system access. Check both the site permission and whether your operating system allows the browser to use a microphone. This tool needs HTTPS and a browser supporting recording. A denial or missing capability should not be interpreted as a broken microphone.

Make one useful recording

Speak a short ordinary sentence from your normal position in a reasonably quiet place. Do not include private information. Stop or wait for the ten-second limit, then replay. If the recording seems silent, first confirm that playback itself works with Sound Check. Otherwise a speaker-routing issue could be mistaken for a microphone problem.

Know the limit of a browser result

The browser may select a different input from a calling app, particularly with Bluetooth accessories. A clear local recording does not guarantee clear calls in another app. If one app fails while the browser test works, check that app’s microphone permission and selected input. If every appropriate test fails, consult the device manufacturer with the observed error and input setup.
