No Sound From Your Phone? Check the Output Before the Speaker

Start by finding where audio is being sent, then compare an app, a local recording, and a browser tone.

Start with one controlled comparison

Play a familiar clip at a comfortable level. Note whether you expect sound from the phone, wired headphones, or a Bluetooth device. Turn Bluetooth off when testing the phone itself. A connected car, speaker, or headset can make a working phone seem silent. Google’s Pixel guidance includes checking Bluetooth when sound is unclear or low.

Separate the source from the output

Try a second app and, if available, a local recording. Keep the output and volume unchanged. If only one app is silent, focus on that app’s playback and output controls. If several sources are silent through one output but work through another, the problem may be in routing, that accessory, or its connection. This comparison narrows the question; it does not diagnose a damaged component.

Use the tool once

Open the Stereo Sound Test and choose Both. Start low and listen briefly. Left and Right control channels, not specific top or bottom phone speakers. A phone that combines channels can play both through the same physical speaker. Do not infer a broken speaker just because the channel behavior differs from a pair of stereo headphones.

Record what you found

Write down which app, which output, and which test failed. For example: videos and the browser work through headphones, but neither works through the phone speaker. That is more useful to support than simply saying the phone has no sound. If a liquid alert, impact, overheating, or persistent failure is involved, stop experiments and contact your manufacturer. A cleaning tone is not a general repair for a silent phone.
