Compare source, output and volume without pushing the speaker harder.
Stop if the sound is getting worse
New or increasing distortion is a reason to stop a tone. Do not interpret buzzing as proof that a cleaning cycle is working. A website cannot inspect a diaphragm, connector, amplifier, or battery. If the device is also hot, damaged or wet, follow manufacturer support advice first.
Use a simple comparison log
Note the source, selected output, volume and whether the crackle is constant or intermittent. Try a second familiar source at the same comfortable setting. If the noise appears only in one recording, that file may be the reason. If it occurs only with a wireless accessory, compare a different output to narrow the path.
Avoid an automatic hardware verdict
A short browser tone can help make a symptom repeatable, but it cannot distinguish all hardware and software causes. Keep the test brief. Compare at a lower volume rather than raising it. Do not run a long frequency sweep trying to find the loudest buzz; that adds listening discomfort without giving a reliable diagnosis.
Give support a reproducible report
A useful description is: “The same crackle occurs in two apps through the phone speaker, but not through headphones, at this volume.” Apple’s official distorted-sound guide includes checks for blocked openings and service options. Follow your own manufacturer’s equivalent steps. Persistent distortion across ordinary playback is a service question, not evidence that you need repeated cleaning tones.
